General information

Hamburg Hauptbahnhof is the central station of the seaport Hamburg in the north of Germany. Hamburg Hbf lies in the middle of the city center. All major attractions are at walking distance. The station was inaugurated in 1906. It's Germany's busiest station and after Paris Gare du Nord the busiest station of Europe.

Transportation

If you stay in Hamburg and are looking for a taxi, you can go to one of the two taxi stands near the station. They can be found near the exits on the Kirchenallee and the GlockenGliesserwall. Taxi vouchers can be bought from the Deutsche Bahn (DB) information desk. Hamburg's S-bahn leaves from platforms 1-4. The subway (U-bahn) has two stations nearby: Hauptbahnhof Süd (lines U1 and U3) and Hauptbahnhof Nord (lines U2 and U4). You can also rent a car at Hamburg Hbf. Avis car rental can be found in the foyer at platform 12. Europcar and Sixt are located next to the DB Reisezentrum. If you want to explore the city by bike, Hamburg Stadtrad is the ideal solution. It's a self-service bike system, where you can rent and park bikes at several locations.

Services

You can go to the DB information desk for information about the city, taxi vouchers, hotel reservations, assistance with lost luggage and all information about traveling by train. Luggage trolleys can be found throughout the station. You can use station lockers if you want to temporarily store your luggage. The station also has Wi-Fi.

Restaurants

As is to be expected from a large station, Hamburg has a large selection of eating and drinking facilities. There are several fast-food restaurants for a quick bite and there's a real German bar. Most restaurants can be found in the Food Court of the Wandelhalle or in the Südsteg.

Shops

In the small shopping mall, the Wandelhalle, you can find all kinds of shops. There are bookstores, gift shops, a flower shop, a drugstore, a perfumery, boutiques, and a bank.
