Introduction

Despite the earthquakes which have struck Foggia in the past and the heavy bombardments during World War II, you can visit historical buildings in this city. Foggia is also an artistic center, which can be seen in the city's museums and galleries.

The city has almost 150,000 inhabitants.

Location

Foggia is located in the southeast of Italy, not far from the Adriatic coast. The city is surrounded by the plains of Apulia (Puglia in Italian), an extremely fertile agricultural area.

Economy

Trading agricultural produce from the surroundings (the Tavoliere, also 'the granary of Italy') is the one of the main sources of income. The plains surrounding the city mainly provide grains, olives and grapes. Dairy products are also produced, like the Buffalo Mozzarella. Industry mainly revolves around food processing.

Airports

The city's airport, Foggia Gino Lisa Airport, is situated only 3 kilometers south of the city center. There are only domestic flights. The nearest international airport is the airport of Bari, 125 kilometers southeast of Foggia and reachable by rental car via the A-14 (a toll road).

Public Transport

Foggia has good public transport. Buses not only run to destinations within the city, but also to surrounding villages like Mezzanone, Borgo, Segezia, Cervaro Arpinova and Villanova.

Traffic and Parking

Compared with other Italian cities, Foggia isn't a busy city, but finding a free parking place for your rental car in the center can be difficult. Fortunately, there are several guarded parking lots and garages where you can park your car. This is also safer than leaving your rental car unattended in the street.

 What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.

 Are there any additional costs?
