Introduction

Preveza is known for the Aktion airport. This airport is the gateway to the Ionian island of Lefkas. Few people know that the area around Preveza has a lot to offer: not only beautiful beaches, but also an impressive mountainous landscape, archeological findings and ancient forts and castles. If you would like to discover the real Greece, then you should visit this region!

There have been many battles for Preveza in the past, because of its strategic location. Therefore, there are some impressive fortresses. The oldest is Venetian. Preveza has a large marina; you rent a yacht to cruise around the islands in the Ionian Sea. Five kilometers north of Preveza are the ruins of Nicopolis, a city which was founded in 31 BC by the Roman emperor Augustus. You can see beautifully restored mosaic floors, for example. At the mouth of the River Acheron is the picturesque village Ammoudia near a beautiful beach. The river runs partly underground and partly through a deep gorge. In Greek mythology Acheron is the border between the world of the living and the dead.

The town has a population of 20,000.

Location

Preveza is located in the Epirus region in northwest Greece on the tip of a peninsula, which separates the Gulf of Arta (also: Gulf of Amvrakikos) almost entirely from the Ionian Sea.

Airports

The airport is located just south of Preveza, near Aktion, and is called Preveza-Aktion Airport. The airport is connected to Preveza by a tunnel under the Gulf of Arta and is therefore easily accessible by rental car. You can get to the center of Preveza in ten minutes. The island Lefkas is also reachable by car: by a bridge connecting the island to the Greek mainland.

Public Transport

There is public bus transport between the most important towns and beaches, but its schedule is irregular. A rental car is a much better means of transport to explore Preveza and its surrounding area.

Traffic and Parking

Preveza is a relatively modern city and it can be difficult to find a parking space in the center. A rental car is an ideal means of transport to the attractions in the area of Preveza. Keep in mind that there are narrow winding roads in the mountains in the north of the Epirus region. You can also encounter shepherds with their herds of sheep or goats.

Hotels

Preveza itself has a limited range of accommodations. However, there are holiday resorts and villas and apartments for rent along the beaches north of Preveza. The island Lefkas is more focused on tourism: there are plenty of hotels and apartments.

 What do I need to do when picking up a car?

To pick up your car, you will need your voucher, passport, driver's license and a credit card. It is very important that your driver's license and credit card are in the same name as the main driver. Keep in mind that the local rental company will reserve a certain amount on your credit card as a deposit. This requires the PIN code for your credit card. If your driver's license is foreign (for example, in Chinese), you must bring a translation with you. Only your original passport and driver's license will be accepted - a copy is not sufficient.

 Are there any additional costs?

Our rates are all-inclusive. Our reservation department will inform you in advance should additional costs apply. You can always cancel your booking free of charge if you do not agree (this must be done at least 48 hours prior to the start of the car hire period).

In general, Liability Insurance, Fire Insurance, All-Risks Insurance and Theft Insurance are included in the cost of your rental car.
