Car Rental Cannes

Introduction

Cannes was once a quiet fishing village, but is now a sophisticated seaside resort, best known for the glitz at the annual film festival. Some people think that Cannes is only a place for visitors with a well filled wallet. Although many hotels and restaurants are on the pricey side, you can also find cheaper options. 

The beaches in the city are generally privately rented out, on the east and the west sides are public beaches, but they are often busy.

Population

The city has more than 70,000 inhabitants.

Location

Cannes lies in the south of France, on the Mediterranean Sea, between Nice (northeast) and St. Tropez (southwest).

Economy

The local economy relies mainly on tourism and the many festivals, fairs and conferences held annually in Cannes. Besides the film festival, the important television fair Mipcom, and the music fair Midem, amongst others, are organized here. 

The area around the city has developed into a center of high-tech companies. Satellite systems are developed in the Cannes Mandelieu Space Center.

Airports

The most visitors of Cannes arrive from the airport of Nice, about 20 minutes from the city. The full name of this airport is Aéroport Nice Côte d'Azur. The airport is easily reachable by rental car: from Cannes, you follow the A8 and the N99 exit to the airport. Cannes also has its own airport.

Public transportation

Cannes has excellent public bus transportation. Several lines run every 15 minutes during the day.  

Traffic and parking

The exit of the coastal road (A8) to Cannes is often very busy. There are alternative routes, but in order to find these, you have to be on top of the situation. The same applies to many streets in the center of the city with one-way traffic. There are many parking garages where you can park your rental car. Some tips: the garage Fontville (at the harbor) and car parks under the Palais des Festivales and Grey d'Albion hotel.

Hotels

Cannes has a wide range of accommodations. The higher price range is well represented, but if you search thoroughly (and book well in advance), you can find cheaper accommodation. There are also many apartments for rent, and can be found in the area of the Cannes campsites.
