Location

Béziers is located in the south of France on a hill along the river Orb at only 10 kilometers from the Mediterranean. Near Béziers, the Canal du Midi crosses the Orb via an aqueduct, the Pont-canal de l'Orb.

Economy

The city is a center for the wine production in this region. Thanks to flights to the nearby airport, tourism also plays an increasing part in local economy. Unemployment in Béziers, however, is relatively high.

Airports

Aéroport Béziers Cap d'Agde is situated 12 kilometers southeast of the city. This airport is only used by budget airlines. The airport is easily reachable by rental car. From Béziers you take the D-612 (north of the city) or the D-612B (south of the city, Route d'Agde). The way to the airport is clearly signposted.

Public Transport

There's a free bus connection (Navette) between the train station and the old city center. There are also several buses to places in the vicinity of Béziers.

Traffic and Parking

You'll have no trouble finding your way around Béziers. Street parking is often only allowed temporarily: in the yellow zone two hours at most, in the orange zone 3.5 hours at most. Vinci Park exploits three parking garages in the city center: Jean Jaurès, De La Madeleine and Saint Vincent de Paul. The last two are near the covered market (Les Halles).

Hotels

Béziers has a good choice of hotels, ranging from basic budget hotels to luxurious accommodations. Many of the cheapest hotels often receive negative reviews from travelers though. You can also find attractive accommodations in old farms or wine taverns in the vicinity of the city.
