General information
Caen is located in the northwest of France and is the capital of the Basse-Normandie region. The city lies only 15 kilometers from the Channel. Caen Train Station dates back to 1857 and was thoroughly renovated to its current condition in 1934. The town is known for its buildings constructed during the reign of William the Conqueror, although not many are left. During World War II, violent combats took place in Caen during D-Day, which destroyed a large part of the city.
Transportation
You can find taxis in front of the station (for reservations call Tel. 02 31 52 17 89), but you can also continue your journey by city and regional buses. Twisto city buses can be found outside the station. The company's regional buses depart from the bus station, which is located to the right of the station. Caen also has a streetcar network. The streetcars stop in front of the station. Caen offers a wide selection of rental cars. Leave the station and cross the road. Here you'll find branches of Europcar and Avis. There's a parking lot to pick up and drop off passengers in front of the station.
Services
Tickets are sold at various locations inside the station. While waiting, you can use Wi-Fi. There are also vending machines with snacks and drinks, a passport photo booth, an ATM and a machine that prints your holiday photos on-site. All facilities for disabled travelers are available.

There are two restaurants. You can eat something at the Pain Soleil Café or if you don't have a lot of time you can go to the Pain Soleil takeout and bring your sandwich on the train. If you have sufficient time, there are several restaurants and bars opposite the station.
